Every so often a movie comes out. A stupid movie, but one with a large budget. So it can’t be that bad. The enormous mansion as a setting is a nice touch, the main actor is good, but the story is laughable. Is it too much to ask for a supernatural movie anymore? I found a problem with modern horror movies is that they’re quick to become overcomplicated. There seems to be a bit of a rush to make unforeseeable twists and surprises that hinders writers/directors from making a good movie. The Boy begins as a pretty standard fare too-weird-from-too-much-wealth supernatural horror, and then contorts itself briefly to stalker horror before just kind of…ending. Pass.
