This was just not a good movie. It was weird, it was confusing, and the worst crime of all - the version I watched was dubbed. Ugh. Dubbed is the worst. Between the dubbing and the sort of nutty translations - they were so close to being perfect! - the film comes off as kind of comical at times. “Those were mere amateurs!” one character says about a group of explorers who recently died exploring the same caves they were about to. “For sure,” the other replies, in a moment of excellent, 2016-and-or-2004-era-splendor. Dubbing aside, this is a bad movie. I never understood the bad guy’s plan, never understood the fucked up love story, or even the basis of why the two main folks even liked each other. Poorly acted? Poorly written? Poorly directed? Probably all of the above.
